One particular area where the Lilywhites might need to strengthen, is their defensive department, especially if they allow Kevin Wimmer to leave, with the Sun reporting that they will listen to offers in the region of £20 million for the Austrian.

With this in mind, they should consider a move for Atletico Madrid’s highly-rated centre-back Jose Gimenez, and take advantage of the fact that he has just one year remaining on his current deal in the Spanish capital.
The 22-year-old defender possesses all of the attributes that would appeal to Pochettino. He is strong in the air, quick along the ground, and plays with a ferocious tenacity that seems to be a prerequisite for any signing the Argentine makes.
Another string to Gimenez’ bow is his versatility, and his ability to play at either centre-back or right-back could be a huge asset to Spurs, especially with Pochettino’s penchant for switching formations not only from one week to the next, but actually during games.
Finally, and perhaps the most appealing factor for Daniel Levy, the Uruguay international could be available for a fairly reasonable price, with just 12 months remaining on his current deal with Atleti.
And if Poch manages to bring him to north London, it could turn out to be a signing of real significance, and would prove their intent for the season ahead.
