Tottenham Hotspur’s Victor Wanyama is injured once again.
Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has told Football.London that Victor Wanyama has left the club’s US tour for a scan on his knee, and will not play against AC Milan.
Spurs played the second game of their pre-season tour of the United States on Sunday morning, coming from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 with Barcelona before losing in a penalty shoot-out.
That came after a 4-1 win over Roma in San Diego, and Spurs now move on to Minnesota take on AC Milan, with Pochettino’s men gearing up for the new Premier League season.
The opening game against Newcastle United is less than two weeks away, and whilst most of his players are building up fitness over in America, one star who isn’t is Victor Wanyama.
Wanyama was named in the tour squad but missed out against both Roma and Barcelona, having suffered a knee injury – and manager Pochettino has now addressed the situation
Speaking to Football.London ahead of the game against Milan, Pochettino not only confirmed that Wanyama will miss the game, but has returned to London for a scan on his knee injury.
Pochettino added that Erik Lamela won’t play either, and Moussa Sissoko is struggling too, but Spurs hope those two don’t have major issues, with more concern over Wanyama’s situation.
“Erik and Victor are not going to play tomorrow,” said Pochettino. “Victor has returned to London for a scan on his knee. That is the situation. Sissoko and Lamela we hope it’s not a big issue, so they are still here with us but there’s no point in taking a risk tomorrow,” he added.
The 27-year-old endured a dismal campaign through injury last season, starting just eight Premier League games – and Pochettino will be desperate for the midfielder to avoid another considerable lay-off ahead of the new season.
