Victor Wanyama made an unexpected appearance for Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.

Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino has told Football.London that his comments about Spurs not being a charity were not pointed in the direction of Victor Wanyama.
Tottenham’s away day woes continued on Saturday afternoon, losing 2-1 away at Leicester City having been 1-0 up through Harry Kane’s goal.
A harsh VAR call saw Serge Aurier’s goal chalked off in the second half, and Leicester took all the momentum as Ricardo Pereira and James Maddison struck to give them all three points.
Pochettino needs to find an answer to Tottenham’s issues on the road, and he had to find answers about midfielder Wanyama after the full time whistle too.
The Kenyan was surprisingly thrown in as a substitute against Leicester, despite not playing a single minute of Premier League action before Saturday’s game.
Wanyama has become a misfit at Spurs, and Pochettino told the Daily Mail that Tottenham ‘are not a charity’ when asked about Wanyama’s role at the club and a potential exit, but tried to emphasise at the time that the comment wasn’t aimed at Wanyama.
Pochettino was asked about those comments again this weekend after bringing Wanyama on, and attempted to clarify once again that it wasn’t pointed at Wanyama or any other players, believing that his words were possibly taken wrongly at the time.

“I wasn’t talking about…The problem is sometimes you take the wrong way my words or maybe my English is not so good after seven years,” said Pochettino. “I wasn’t talking about him, I was talking about in general, never talking in reference of my players or in this case Victor,” he added.
Pochettino appears to be giving Wanyama a chance to fight for his Spurs future, with his comments and his actions showing that the 28-year-old isn’t quite done at Tottenham just yet.
The Daily Record reported last month that Celtic wanted to re-sign Wanyama, and with boss Neil Lennon hinting to The Scottish Sun that a January deal may still be in mind, Pochettino’s stance on Wanyama may just impact the Bhoys.
