Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has told the Daily Mail that he thinks the world’s biggest clubs would be fighting to buy Marcus Edwards if he was Argentinian or Brazilian.
Spurs are in EFL Cup action this evening as they travel to Anfield to take on Liverpool, with manager Pochettino no doubt looking for a deep run into the competition having reached the final in 2015.
England’s Marcus Edwards
Some of Tottenham’s young talents – like Cameron Carter-Vickers and Josh Onomah – will be looking to feature, but one prospect who won’t be playing is Marcus Edwards.
The 17-year-old playmaker picked up an ankle injury last week and will now be missing for up to seven weeks, ruling him out of tonight’s clash when some fans were keen to see him in action after he made his professional debut in the last round of the competition against Gillingham.
That hasn’t stopped manager Pochettino from praising him though, with the Spurs boss hailing his wonderkid in an interview with the Daily Mail.

Pochettino suggested he will continue to give opportunities to young players after Dele Alli and Harry Kane thrived under his management, and much of that is down to Pochettino himself was playing at just 17 with Newell’s Old Boys.
Pochettino claimed that, if Edwards was from Argentina or Brazil, the big teams around the world would be fighting to buy him, such is his talent.
Edwards is a Spurs player though, and whilst he’s out injured right now, Pochettino noted that the playmaker deserves to play despite his age.

“I played when I was 17,” said Pochettino. “It is cultural. You ask me about Marcus Edwards. Maybe if Marcus Edwards were born in Brazil or Argentina, today he would be one of the most interesting prospects in football in the world. Maybe all the big teams would be fighting to buy him.”
“But he is at Tottenham, he is in England and at 17 he is still a kid. We cannot appreciate he is a man, nearly a man, and he deserves to play,” he added.
