Tottenham Hotspur beat Fulham 3-1 on Saturday afternoon.
Tottenham Hotspur made it two wins from two Premier League games on Saturday as they beat Fulham 3-1 at Wembley Stadium in a game that was threatening to slip away from Spurs.
After Lucas Moura’s opener, Aleksandar Mitrovic grabbed an equaliser for Fulham, only for Kieran Trippier and Harry Kane to find the net and hand Spurs the win.
Pochettino tested a fairly new system for Spurs, as he went with Davinson Sanchez, Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen as his back three and Ben Davies and Trippier as wing backs; something he has done for a couple of seasons.
Yet further forward, Pochettino picked Eric Dier in holding midfield, with Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen further ahead of him, and Moura operating off Kane in a 3-3-2-2 setup much like England at the World Cup.
Pochettino will see Son Heung-min return from the Asian Games soon, and whilst he would be ideal in that role behind Kane, he could give the Spurs boss a chance to go with a hugely exciting Spurs team.
Pochettino would be able to sacrifice a defender for a winger; that would see Dier, Victor Wanyama or Mousa Dembele used in the holding midfield role, whilst keeping Eriksen and Alli ahead of that player.
That would then allow Moura and Son to operate either side of Kane, giving Pochettino a five-prong attack of Son, Alli, Eriksen, Moura and Kane – something few defences would relish facing.
It would be a gamble for Pochettino to start all five players at once, possibly opening his defence up to being exposed by dropping a centre back, but in certain games, this could make Tottenham hugely dangerous, and is something for Pochettino to certainly consider after the Fulham display, in which he saw Alli, Eriksen, Moura and Kane all feature.
