The Manchester United left-back has been linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur recently.
When writing the epilogue for Guillem Balague’s new book ‘Brave New World’, Manchester United left-back Luke Shaw said that he would like to play under Mauricio Pochettino again at some point, whilst claiming that the Argentine wants to coach him once again.
The 45-year-old was in charge of the left-back during their time together at Southampton, but the Saints sold the 22-year-old when Pochettino left the club to become manager of Tottenham in the summer of 2014.
The England international has struggled to establish himself as a first-team regular during his time at Old Trafford, however, and many believe that his future could lie away from Manchester.
“He used to call me his son. That’s how good our relationship was. I’ve had lots of ups and downs, but when I was with Pochettino it was only ever up, up, up. He made me feel that I was the best. He’d show me clips of my games and say, “You could do this better”. Not in a horrible way. Not I could have done better, but I should have done better, because he knows I can be better. I think with Southampton he achieved the impossible. We were one of the best footballing teams in the league… I do hope that I can play for him again one day. And I think he really wants me to play under him again.”
The left-back still has a lot to offer at the very highest level, and despite his questionable injury record, he could be a real coup for Tottenham, should they make a move to sign him.
With Danny Rose’s future in north London far from certain, Pochettino could very well target Shaw as a potential signing, and following the 22-year-old’s words stating his desire to reunite with the Argentine, it seems like it could be a very real possibility.
