Speaking to Off The Ball, The Sun’s Martin Lipton has been discussing the idea of Mauricio Pochettino returning to Tottenham Hotspur.

The Argentine has, once again, been linked with a return to Spurs this week, and after a run of poor results under Antonio Conte, the rumour mill is starting to turn.

Lipton was quick to share what he knows about this situation, and he gave an interesting insight into Pochettino’s relationship with Daniel Levy.

The reporter says that Pochettino and Levy are in fact great friends, but he did add the caveat that they would sometimes clash over the finances surrounding the new stadium.

However, now that the stadium has been built and is generating cash, Lipton pointed out that this wouldn’t be such a problem this time around.

No stadium issues anymore

The journalist spoke about Pochettino and Levy’s relationship.

“The relationship between Pochettino and Levy was very strong. You have to remember that, they used to go on holiday together and all of that. They disagreed on things, but that was mostly about the finances of the stadium. Levy felt he couldn’t give Pochettino all of the money he wanted and one summer it was none of the money he wanted. But that’s no longer an issue,” Lipton said.

Smooth sailing

This is one key reason why a return to Spurs for Pochettino could work.

The issues that he once had at the club are now gone, and the fact that he gets on so well with Levy on a personal level is a huge bonus.

Yes, Spurs can be frustrating, but you can’t accuse the owners of not spending lately. They pumped £150m worth of capital into the club over the summer, and most of that was spent on transfers.

Pochettino could have a much smooher ride at Spurs second time around.
