Tottenham have found it difficult to adapt to playing at the national stadium.
Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has claimed that playing at Wembley is like an away game for his side.
Pochettino’s team are playing all of their home fixtures at Wembley this season while their new ground is being built and the 45-year-old indicated that Tottenham have a disadvantage by playing at the national stadium.
As reported by ESPN, Pochettino said: “The feeling is much better when you play away from home than at Wembley. Because you feel that when you play at Wembley, you are playing away from home too sometimes. That is the reality.”
“We were after the game [on Saturday] with the West Brom staff. They said there is motivation to play for a team like West Brom at Wembley. That is an extra charge we need to compete against. Of course, it is a big motivation for opponents to play at Wembley. We need to use it in a positive way.”
Tottenham have won just three of their seven Premier League games at Wembley this season and had to battle to secure a point in the 1-1 draw against West Bromwich Albion last weekend.
Pochettino, then, may well be grateful that Tottenham’s next two games are away fixtures, with tonight’s trip to face Leicester City followed by a clash against Watford at Vicarage Road on Saturday.
Against Leicester Pochettino will certainly be demanding an improved performance from his players and Tottenham have the additional incentive of being able to temporarily go above Arsenal with a victory, with their rivals not in action until tomorrow night when they host Huddersfield Town.
Tottenham are set to be provided with a boost as winger Erik Lamela could be included in the matchday squad for the first time this season after recovering from a hip problem.
