Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has been quoted as saying by The Irish Times that club chairman Daniel Levy struggles to sleep at night due to the new stadium.

Spurs will move into a brand new stadium next season and are playing at Wembley for the time being.

According to a report in The Daily Mail back in December 2017, Tottenham’s new stadium will cost £1 billion from the initial estimation of £400 million.

Tottenham manager Pochettino has admitted that he does not know how much the new stadium will cost, and has conceded that club Levy is having sleepless nights.

Daniel Levy takes his seat in the stand for the game during the Premier League match between Tottenham Hotspur and Sunderland at White Hart Lane on September 18, 2016 in London, England.

The Irish Times quotes Pochettino as saying when asked when the new stadium will be paid for: “I don’t know, Daniel knows better than me! I hope that as soon as possible we can put all the focus on football only.

“I am sure that Arsene [Wenger] knows very well that it is not easy to build a stadium this type of stadium, and then getting good results and being competitive. It is so tough.

“I think it is a very difficult job for Daniel. I can understand why he struggles to sleep at night because it is amazing – you need to be worried, not worried, but focused.”

Tough balance

It would not be easy for Tottenham to balance paying for the new stadium and investing in the squad, but Levy is a shrewd businessman and Spurs fans should remain optimistic about the club’s future.

Spurs already have a superb team who look set to finish in the top four of the Premier League for the third season in a row.

If Tottenham continue to feature in the Champions League on a regular basis in the coming years, then they will be just fine.
