Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has told The Independent that he held ‘a few meetings’ with his players after Thursday’s defeat to Gent.
After losing 2-0 to Liverpool last weekend, Spurs travelled to Belgium on Thursday evening to take on Gent in the Europa League – and returned with a shock 1-0 defeat after a disappointing performance.
With just one goal in four games heading into Sunday’s FA Cup clash with Fulham, Spurs were under real pressure to get a result and pick up some momentum ahead of Thursday’s return leg at Wembley against Gent.
Manager Mauricio Pochettino got exactly what he wanted as Tottenham coasted to a 3-0 win over Fulham on Sunday, with Harry Kane bagging a superb hat-trick at Craven Cottage.
Kane prodded home from Christian Eriksen’s first half cross before repeating the trick for 2-0 after the break, with his third goal coming after being played through on goal by Dele Alli, with Kane slotting past Marcus Bettinelli to seal the win.
A quarter-final clash with Millwall has now been set up, but Spurs must now focus their attention on Thursday’s game against Gent, as their European campaign hangs by a thread.
After the final whistle against Fulham, manager Pochettino spoke to The Independent, and revealed that he held ‘a few meetings’ with his players, prompting a ‘fantastic’ reaction.

Pochettino added that Sunday’s great result was ideal for ending the bad feeling from two successive losses, noting just how important it was for Spurs to get some confidence back.
“After Gent we had a few meetings [with the players] and the reaction was fantastic,” said Pochettino. “I am very pleased. Now we’ll try and keep that feeling for Thursday.”
“It was a great opportunity today to show that we are alive, and end that bad feeling after two defeats. We have another ‘final’ at Wembley on Thursday and we’ll need to feel fresh, and to bring some confidence back. That was important today,” he added.
