Tottenham fans on Twitter defended Jose Mourinho’s decision to leave Dele Alli out of his matchday squad for their Premier League clash against Newcastle.

For the second league game running, Mourinho has left the attack-minded midfielder out of his matchday squad even though he did start their European fixture in midweek.

Many months ago, there was a furore around Tanguy Ndombele’s situation in North London, and he has since bounced back, as it now seems that spotlight has now been put on Alli.

A section of Spurs fans on social media made it clear that they have a piled up fixture list coming up, including their League Cup clash against rivals Chelsea on Tuesday.

Alli has a good record against the Blues, so it’s understandable that he is kept fresh for that fixture.

Plus, others made it clear that the Englishmen hasn’t exactly been pulling up trees recently so it’s not like he should be walking into the matchday squad.

Tottenham Hotspur’s summer signings

  2. Joe Hart

  3. Matt Doherty

  5. Gareth Bale

Either way, whilst some have defended Mourinho for not selecting Alli against Spurs, they will no doubt express a different viewpoint if he’s not selected in the squad against Chelsea.
