The Lilywhites were beaten 2-0 by Marcelo Bielsa’s side in the Championship.
Preston North End defender Jordan Storey has given his post-match thoughts following Tuesday night’s Championship defeat at the hands of Leeds United at Deepdale.
The Lilywhites went down to ten men early in the second half when Ben Pearson was shown a straight red card – his third of the season – for bringing down Patrick Bamford when the Whites striker was through on goal.
A few minutes later Bamford opened the scoring for the Whites with a ferocious 25-yard effort, and the same player then doubled the visitors’ tally with a header midway through the second half, a result which edged Leeds back into the top two.
In conversation with the Preston media team, subsequently posted on the club’s official Twitter feed, Storey thought the hosts were holding their own against the Championship promotion chasers until the sending off, after which things turned especially tough.
The 21-year-old stressed that he and his teammates gave their all but admitted that ultimately it was not enough, though they intend to do all they can to finish the season strongly.
“It was neck and neck really in the first half and obviously the sending off changed the game,” he said. “They are one of the toughest teams to play with 11 men, so to carry on with ten men it was tough but we gave it our all but it wasn’t enough on the night.
“We are disappointed not to get more points in the last three games but we want to bounce back and finish the season strongly. We will give it our all and we want to finish the season as well as possible.”
Preston return to action on Saturday afternoon with a Championship trip to West Bromwich Albion and will be desperate not to let their season peter out following three defeats on the trot – they lost at Reading and at home to Sheffield United before being beaten by Leeds.
