Liverpool and Manchester United are in the hunt for the Premier League runners-up spot.

Paul Merson has told Sky Sports that Liverpool will finish second in the Premier League this season.
The former Arsenal star has backed Manchester United to finish behind the Reds in the league table this campaign.

While predicting the Reds to beat Watford 3-0 at Anfield in the Premier League this weekend, Merson told Sky Sports: “I fancy Liverpool to beat Manchester United into second, and this game is important for them to close down the current five-point gap.
“There’s a lot to play for second place, mark my words. United have to play Manchester City so the gap will be two points, so Liverpool have to ensure they win these games.”

Battle for the runners-up spot
Not so long ago United looked pretty much guaranteed to finish second in the Premier League table this season behind Manchester City, who are set to win the league title this campaign.
However, the race for the runners-up spot is very much on right now, with the Red Devils, Liverpool and Spurs all in the hunt.
Jurgen Klopp’s side are in good form at the moment, but United will have no European football for the rest of the season, and that could be an advantage for Jose Mourinho’s side.
Tottenham are also out of Europe, and the North London club will fancy their chances of finishing behind City.
The race for the runners-up spot in the Premier League this season could go down to the wire.
