Where to see Everton’s internationals in action this weekend

Romelu Lukaku, Ashley Williams and Idrissa Gueye are among those appearing in televised qualifiers.

When a team gets a thumping – as Everton did at Chelsea on Saturday – there are varying opinions on whether it is better to have another game straight away to bounce back, or face a wait for the next match to regroup and have time to think about how to put things right.

The timing of the latest international break means Ronald Koeman’s side do not have a choice in the matter, but many of his first team players will still be in action this weekend for their national teams.

Of those, several will be available to watch in the UK. England’s match with Scotland on Friday evening is live on ITV1 and kicks off at 7.45pm, with Toffees defender Phil Jagielka the sole Everton representative in Gareth Southgate’s squad.

Saturday lunchtime also sees a Goodison Park regular in action. Idrissa Gana Gueye is likely to take his place in the centre of Senegal’s midfield when they visit South Africa for a match that begins at 1pm and is being shown live on BT Sport 1.

Senegal top the group having beaten the Cape Verde Islands 2-0 in the opening match, so head to face Bafana Bafana looking to maintain their 100% record.

Later on Saturday, defender Seamus Coleman should feature for the Republic of Ireland in their tricky tie away at Austria. Martin O’Neill’s men sit three points clear of their opponents going into the match, which starts at 5:00pm and is live on Sky Sports 1.

Also on Sky Sports 1 but kicking off at 7.45pm, Everton defender Ashley Williams captains Wales in their crucial Group D tie against Serbia at the Cardiff City Stadium.

Sunday is a busy day for the travelling Toffees, with Maarten Stekelenburg, Romelu Lukaku, Kevin Mirallas and Yannick Bolasie all in action.

Stekelenburg is battling it out for a starting place in goal for the Netherlands, who are in Luxembourg for a 5:00pm kick-off live on Sky Sports 1, while Lukaku and Mirallas have been called up by former Everton boss Roberto Martinez for Belgium’s match against Estonia, which begins at 7.45pm also on Sky Sports 1.

Bolasie will be representing the Democratic Republic of Congo in their qualifier in Guinea, which kicks off at 5.30pm but is not being televised in the UK.

Also not being shown is Brazil v Argentina, which kicks off at 12.45am on Friday morning. Ramiro Funes Mori could feature for the visitors as they look to improve having picked up just 16 points and scored only 11 goals in their 10 qualifying matches to date, a record which leaves Argentina out of the qualification places as things stand.

Bryan Oviedo, meanwhile, will be representing Trinidad and Tobago as they host Costa Rica on Friday evening, a match which is also not being shown in the UK.
