Spurs need to avoid defeat if they are to ensure qualification for the Europa League.

Tottenham bring the curtain down on a disappointing Champions League campaign this evening as they welcome CSKA Moscow to Wembley.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side will at least see their European exploits continue into the New Year with a point tonight, as that will secure them entry to the Europa League.

A return to Thursday night football is not what Spurs supporters had in mind at the start of the season, however, with the transition to Wembley particularly difficult for Tottenham; they have lost both of their home matches in the Champions League so far.

The Key Battle – Jan Vertonghen vs Lacina Traore

The giant Ivorian striker may have struggled to have an impact at Everton two years ago, but he has found the net regularly in his loan spell in the Russian capital and will be out to show English audiences what he can do; it has the potential to be an awkward encounter for Vertonghen.

Last Meeting:

The two sides have met just once before, in September’s matchday two meeting.

Son Heung-min’s strike gave Spurs an impressive away win, but they failed to kick on from that point and stumbled against Monaco and Bayer Leverkusen.
