Speaking to BBC Radio Solent, Jack Wilshere outlined his satisfaction after his Bournemouth debut, and compared his new side’s style of play to that of his parent club Arsenal.

Wilshere came off the bench after an hour to help Bournemouth to their first win of the season, as they overcame West Brom at the Vitality Stadium thanks to a late Callum Wilson goal.

“I’ve been training for 10 days but there’s nothing like getting out on the pitch and playing in the Premier League,” the midfielder said. “I’m happy with that and happy to get the win as well.”

The 24-year-old confirmed that his move away from the Emirates Stadium was brought about by his own desire to leave and play regular football.

“I wanted to get as many games as possible this season; I spoke with the manager at Arsenal and he couldn’t promise me that so I wanted to move and show everyone what I can do,” he said.

The midfielder has not played more than 20 league games in a season since 2013/14, but if he proves his fitness Wilshere will become a key part of the Bournemouth midfield alongside club stalwart Harry Arter.

Wilshere nearly made a dream start on his debut with an assist for Junior Stanislas, but the winger saw his shot well saved by West Brom goalkeeper Ben Foster.

Playing in front of Bournemouth’s compact home crowds is a world away from appearing before 60,000 fans at the Emirates, but the England international was full of praise for his new supporters and is looking forward to the challenges that lie ahead.

Wilshere had the option of following his international teammate Joe Hart abroad, but chose to stay in the Premier League and aid Bournemouth’s survival bid as the Cherries seek to avoid suffering from the so-called ‘second-season syndrome’.

A key reason for this decision is his belief that the Cherries style of play would suit his ability, with Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe and Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger both notoriously favouring possession-based football.

“It’s similar to way Arsenal play as they want to keep the ball, so I’m sure I can fit in to the team that way,” he said.

Wilshere will now be focusing his attention on a place in the starting XI for next weekend’s tough clash at Manchester City, as Bournemouth look to build on the momentum following their first win.
