Liverpool fans on Instagram are imploring Gini Wijnaldum to stay at Anfield.

The Dutch midfielder will lift the Premier League trophy at Anfield on Wednesday but there’s doubts over his long-term future on Merseyside.

Wijnaldum, a £25 million signing in 2016, only has one year left on his contract at Liverpool.

According to Goal, Barcelona are interested in bringing the former Newcastle United star to Camp Nou.

And with no news about a new contract, this could be a worrying summer for Liverpool fans on that front.

The 29-year-old said on Instagram that he was ‘so proud’ to be part of Jurgen Klopp’s side ahead of the ceremony next week.

And here’s how some Reds fans responded on social media:

phantomenix: Pls don’t go Gini.
t.a.r.z.h: You had me for a second, I thought you were leaving
owain.hawkins: Sign the contract gini lad
ells__17: Incredible what you’ve achieved since you’ve been with us!! Everyone one of the players are legends! Let’s get you signing that contract extension now please
baraafahad: Are you leaving
gwijnaldum.1: Thought this was his goodbyes. Nearly died reading this

It’s really important that Klopp keeps the Netherlands international.

There probably are better midfielders than Wijnaldum, but none that Liverpool are going to stump up the money for, so it makes sense to just give him a bumper pay rise to keep him happy and secure his long-term future.
