Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to react after The Sun revealed that Edu is in constant contact with Jorge Mendes over a deal for Ruben Neves.
What’s the story?
Well, the Gunners sound very keen to take the Wolves No.8 away from Molineux.
The Sun believe Wolves want £35m for the 24-year-old, which is said to be a stumbling block for the north Londoners.
Both Edu and Mendes want a deal done as soon as possible, presumably so Bruno Lage can find a replacement for the 22-cap Portugal international.
The Sun add that James Maddison and Ben White could also end up at the Emirates Stadium this summer.
However, it seems as if Edu is keen to do a deal for Neves quickly.
The interest in Neves comes amid doubts over Granit Xhaka’s future in north London.
The Sun believe Roma have offered £15m, but Arsenal want £20m from Jose Mourinho’s side.
What about Houssem Aouar?
Admittedly, signing a player who already has Premier League experience is tempting, so we understand Arsenal’s interest in Neves.
However, a long-term target of theirs in Houssem Aouar is said to be available for just £20m this summer.
In that respect, why would Mikel Arteta and Edu choose to spend £15m more on Neves?
Aouar is one year younger than the 24-year-old, and would offer Arsenal a new dimension in midfield alongside Thomas Partey.
For us, Neves would be too similar to Xhaka – if Arsenal sign the Wolves maestro, they may as well keep the Swiss playmaker.
