Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to talk about Gabriel Martinelli after Football London revealed that Lucas Torreira is set to join Lazio.
Why is Martinelli mentioned?
Well, when sharing the update on Torreira, Football London‘s Chris Wheatley added that the No.11 shirt will now be up for grabs.
In the same tweet, Wheatley mentions that Thomas Partey is very likely to wear No.5 from next season, if you needed context on the matter.
Now, Arsenal fans want Martinelli to inherit Torreira’s No.11 shirt, once the £26 million man has left for Lazio.
Ever since his £6 million move from Ituano, Martinelli has worn the No.35 shirt, and has made it somewhat iconic with some fantastic displays.
Would be a big statement
In this day and age, shirt numbers do hold some significance.
Players such as Cristiano Ronaldo base their whole brand around them, with the Juventus forward known universally as CR7.

If Martinelli was to take Arsenal’s No.11 shirt, he would join a long list of iconic players who have owned that number.
Mesut Özil, Robin van Persie, Marc Overmars and Ian Wright are just a few icons who have worn that shirt for Arsenal.
At just 20 years of age, it would be a big statement from Martinelli if he was either handed the shirt, or if he requested it.

In our view, he deserves it.
Martinelli has always looked electric whenever he’s played for the Gunners, and he could easily make the No.11 shirt his own at the Emirates Stadium.
For now, let’s see what the Arsenal fans on Twitter have been saying about the situation…
