Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang did not feature against Sheffield United due to flu.
Ahead of the Premier League game on Sunday evening, The Athletic reported that Aubameyang had flu and was not going to play.
The 31-year-old striker posted a message on Instagram before the match started, wishing his teammates the best of luck and hoping that he is back in action on Thursday evening.
Arsenal will take on Slavia Prague away from home in the second leg of their Europa League quarter-final tie on Thursday evening.
Mikel Arteta’s side played out a 1-1 draw in the first leg at the Emirates Stadium last week.
Arsenal won the Premier League game against the Blades 3-0 on Sunday without Aubameyang, but having the striker at least on the substitutes’ bench against Slavia would be massive for the Gunners.
One would expect Arsenal fans to hope that Aubameyang recovers from flu for the game, but some supporters of the North London club do not think that he is needed, as shown below.
Given how disappointing Aubameyang has been so far this season – he has scored seven goals in the Premier League and three in the Europa League, according to WhoScored – perhaps some Arsenal fans think that the team are better without him, especially as Gabriel Martinelli and Alexandre Lacazette scored against the Blades.
