Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to react after Fabrizio Romano tweeted that Andre Onana is closing in on a move to Inter Milan.
What’s the story?
Firstly, you might be wondering why this concerns Arsenal.
Well, Arsenal have been linked with the 18-cap Cameroon international, whose contract is set to expire in June 2022.
Marc Overmars – Director of Football at Ajax – admitted that the Dutch outfit are struggling to get Onana to sign a new deal, opening the door to Arsenal.
However, Romano now believes the 25-year-old is heading for Italy.
As you’ll know, Mikel Arteta opted not to wait for Onana, and signed Aaron Ramsdale in a £30m deal from Sheffield United.
The 23-year-old has started three Premier League games so far after displacing Bernd Leno, and has impressed while keeping two clean sheets.
Should Arsenal sign Andre Onana regardless?
Clearly, Arteta isn’t a fan of Leno, and wanted a new No.1 in the summer.
The Spaniard now has that in Ramsdale, but we feel it would be worth signing Onana as well, given uncertainty over the German.
According to The Athletic, Leno wants to leave the club.
In that respect, if we were Edu, we’d sign Onana for free to act as a long-term replacement for Leno, who is four years older at 29.
To have Ramsdale and Onana – two fantastic goalkeepers – competing with each other would be great for Arsenal.
The Ajax glovesman looks close to joining Inter Milan, but anything can happen in football – who knows what might change if Arsenal make a contract offer?
