Some Arsenal fans are begging Mikel Arteta to start using Gabriel Martinelli a lot more.
The 20-year-old Brazilian sensation has started only two Premier League games for the Gunners so far this season.
In total, Martinelli has clocked just 747 minutes of top-flight football for Arsenal since the start of last season.
As a result, his father, Joao, told Yahoo Sport on Thursday that his son isn’t too happy with the lack of action.
Martinelli senior also revealed that the livewire – who cost the North Londoners only £6 million during Unai Emery’s reign – had ‘proposals from Europe’.
This is a player who Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp called the ‘talent of the century’ back in 2019.
And some Arsenal fans are afraid of losing him on the back of his dad’s comments.
Here’s how they’re reacting to the quotes on Twitter:
Problem
In Arteta’s defence, Arsenal are fifth in the Premier League table.
In other words, Arteta’s side are doing very well at the moment and risking that to squeeze Martinelli into the picture just doesn’t make sense.
Having said that, there’s been a lot of occasions over the past two years when the Emirates Stadium side haven’t been thriving and the Spanish coach still never turned to the youngster all that regularly.
Martinelli’s problem is deeper than not being able to get into a winning team.
It appears as if Arteta doesn’t fully trust him yet and the only one who can change that is the player himself.
