On Saturday afternoon, things became from worse to even worse for Everton and the man in their dugout.
The Toffees were beaten by bottom-of-the-table Norwich City and it now seems the end is nigh for Benitez.
Sky Sports report that there is set to be an Everton board meeting to discuss Benitez’s future following that loss and he is seemingly on the brink.
Before Benitez arrived, a lot was made about the blue half of Merseyside wanting to appoint a former Liverpool manager as their new boss.
For a lot, it’s not a surprise that this is going to be the end result because what were those in the Goodison Park boardroom seriously expecting?
Everton weren’t in a great place when they were looking to replace Carlo Ancelotti, so the last thing you need to do is bring in a controversial appointment and one that has a history from your rivals.
And now, it looks like it is going to end with Benitez getting the chop before the season is out.
The problem is that, not only has Benitez made matters worse at Everton, but him being an ex-Red was always going to be a cloud of his time at the club.
