It was a difficult evening for Arsenal defender Ben White on Thursday.
Arsenal were dumped out of the Carabao Cup after losing 2-0 to Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium.
The Gunners did immense to secure a 0-0 draw during the first leg at Anfield, despite having 10 men for 65 minutes.
But the Merseysiders were a class apart last night, with Diogo Jota netting twice to condemn the North Londoners to elimination.
For the second half, Arsenal centre-back White was perhaps culpable as Jota sprinted beyond him to reach a long ball, dinking Aaron Ramsdale in the end.
And former Gunners striker Jay Bothroyd, who came through their Hale End academy, has criticised White for the error, arguing Mikel Arteta should recall William Saliba from Marseille.
Is Saliba coming back?
Well obviously not this month, despite Bothroyd’s wishes, and probably not in general, no.
Arsenal manager Arteta clearly doesn’t rate the 20-year-old French powerhouse despite impressing in Ligue 1 this season.
Saliba even held his own against a certain Kylian Mbappe, underlining his potential.
The Londoners spent £27 million on signing him back in 2019 but incredibly, the young stalwart hasn’t made a single competitive appearance for the club as of yet.
And so long as Arteta is at the Emirates Stadium, it’s genuinely possible that he never will return to London Colney on a long-term basis.
