Graeme Souness has suggested in The Times not to get carried away with the form of Arsenal attacking midfielder Emile Smith Rowe.

Smith Rowe has been brilliant for Arsenal this season and has established himself as a key figure in the team.

The Gunners needed a creator-in-chief in the absence of Mesut Ozil, and the 20-year-old has stepped in for the German.

The 20-year-old has provided four assists in 10 Premier League matches, and has scored one goal and given two assists in four Europa League games for the Gunners so far this season, according to WhoScored.

Ray Parlour, Rio Ferdinand, Jack Wilshere and Mesut Ozil have all been impressed by the English youngster, but Liverpool legend and Sky Sports pundit Souness has urged against overhyping him.

Souness wrote in The Times: “I also like what I’ve seen so far of Emile Smith Rowe at Arsenal, but please don’t fall into the trap of saying that he’s a star already.

“He’s only played 12 Premier League games in his career. He is a young man who has a chance of being a good top-flight player and maybe progressing beyond that, but it’s still too early to say, whereas the other lads have done it over a period of time.”

Sensible suggestion?

Smith Rowe is a rising star at Arsenal, and the progress and development he has made this season has been very impressive.

However, Souness does have a point about not getting carried away. After all, Smith Rowe is only 20 years of age and is just starting his career.

It is important that the English youngster continues to work hard and add facets to his game, and it is equally important that he is not put under too much pressure at this stage of his career.
