Stephen Warnock has admitted that he feared the worst after seeing Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain go to ground in Liverpool’s victory over Norwich City on Wednesday night.

Liverpool moved into the quarter-finals of the FA Cup for the first-ever time under Jurgen Klopp by winning 2-1 at Anfield.

Oxlade-Chamberlain managed a rare 90 minutes against the Canaries but went to ground in the closing minutes of the clash.

Here’s what Warnock, a former Red, told BBC Radio 5 Live Sport: “You had that obvious concern with Oxlade-Chamberlain as well. You think, ‘please don’t be injured. Please don’t be something serious’. The way he got up, it was almost like something pulled again, his hamstring or his calf.”

Is Oxlade-Chamberlain injured?

Thankfully, nope.

The former Arsenal winger, a £40 million signing in 2017, did indeed go to ground, but it was obvious that Oxlade-Chamberlain’s issue at the time was mere cramp.

As mentioned, this isn’t a player who’s had a lot of football, and has only managed 787 minutes in the Premier League since August.

So cramp and similar issues are inevitable but, thankfully, that’s the extent of the problem he suffered with against Norwich.

It was extra concerning given the 28-year-old’s propensity to accumulate lengthy injuries but thankfully for Liverpool, it’s nothing serious.
