
Liverpool didn’t have a great season last time around.
Well, they won their last five games to nick a Champions League spot and that was considered a success – and rightly so when you consider the challenges Jurgen Klopp’s side faced.
But it was Liverpool’s first season without a trophy since 2018, having won the Champions League in 2019 and the Premier League title a year later.
One man who maintained his red-hot form throughout the campaign, though, was Mohamed Salah.
The Egypt international still bagged a brilliant 31 goals in all competitions – 22 in the Premier League, one shy of the Golden Boot – and it’s clear that the 28-year-old remains integral to the team.
Earlier this year there were worrying reports that Liverpool could sell the player – and Salah himself didn’t do much to dissuade interest by publicly admitting his affection for Real Madrid and Barcelona.
With two years left on his contract, the Anfield side might be vulnerable this summer.
But Carl Markham of The Belfast Telegraph and Press Association has reported that Salah is one of six Liverpool stars who could be given a new deal over the summer.
The report claims that the club have ‘limited finances’ and therefore a lot of attention will be paid to retaining their current stars, over bringing in new players.
Tying Salah down to a new deal would be a massive boost because frighteningly, he’s in the peak of his career.
