Whether home to Hamilton or on neutral ground against the renowned Netherlands, Kevin Nisbet doesn’t give a jot. If a chance comes his way, Scotland’s newest number nine usually takes it.

After scoring 18 goals in his breakthrough Premiership campaign, the Hibernian hotshot opened his international account last night too.

In just his second appearance in a Scotland shirt, Nisbet put Steve Clarke’s side within touching distance of a famous win via the sort of dead-eyed finish he’s made his trademark in double-quick time at Easter Road.

Now, Archimedes himself would struggle to keep track of the amount of gilt-edged opportunities Celtic squandered during a fitful 2020/21 season.

The impending departure of talisman Odsonne Edouard – most likely to Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester City – means the Hoops look destined to lose their most potent goalscoring weapon too.

Nisbet could join Celtic as Edouard heads south

But with Edinburgh News reporting Glasgow-born Nisbet could be on his way to Parkhead – with Hibs hero Leigh Griffiths potentially heading in the opposite direction – Nisbet has wasted no time in winning over the Celtic faithful.

“(Nisbet) is one of those lads, as soon as he sees the goal he fancies having a shot and I don’t mind that at all,” Rangers hero Ally McCoist said recently.

“In fact, it’s a very endearing attitude to have. He takes a touch and hits it first time. I was impressed.”

Nisbet’s goalscoring display in the Algarve suggests he’s got a touch of the McCoists about him.

And Celtic could certainly do with their own version of the Ibrox legend.

Here’s what some Hoops fans had to say on Twitter about the situation:
