Polish legend Zbigniew Boniek cannot understand why reported West Ham and Everton target Arkadiusz Milik is still stuck at Napoli, telling Radio Kiss Kiss that he is ‘angry’ with the situation.
With just a few months remaining until the European Championships get underway, things are looking desperate for one of Poland’s star players.
Milik has not kicked a ball in anger this season, omitted from Gennaro Gattuso’s plans at Napoli after refusing to extend a contract which expires in the summer of 2021.
With the Serie A giants seemingly reluctant to accept a penny less than £14 million for a striker who scored the deciding penalty in their Coppa Italia triumph over Juventus in June, Milik is stuck in no man’s land without an escape route in sight (Goal).
No wonder Boniek is frustrated.
At this rate, Poland will be heading into Euro 2021 with major concerns over the sharpness of their 56-capped centre-forward.
“If he does not play, no European Championships,” said the former Juventus and Roma star, who finished third in the 1982 Ballon d’Or rankings, via Tuttomercatoweb.
“If you don’t play for nine months it’s like coming back from injury. I am amazed by this thing.
“I have anger, he’s someone who plays like (fellow Poland international, Robert) Lewandowski. We have a very strong attacking ability, but the national team can’t work if the players don’t play for the clubs.”
Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti worked with Milik at Napoli but a January switch to Goodison Park is only likely to happen if Cenk Tosun departs, either on loan or in a permanent switch (Tuttomercatoweb).
West Ham, meanwhile, saw a £6.3 million offer rejected this week (CalcioNapoli).
