Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal were linked with Arda Guler, but it was Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid who sign the attacking midfielder in the summer transfer window.

Real Madrid are arguably the biggest club in the world and tend to get the players that they want.

Arsenal tried to sign Arda Guler

So, it was no surprise that the former La Liga and UEFA Champions League winners secured the services of Arda Guler despite Arsenal being keen on him.

Journalist Rudy Galetti told GiveMeSport in July 2023 that Arsenal got in touch with the father and agent of Guler regarding a potential move to the Emirates Stadium.

The 18-year-old Turkey international attacking midfielder was on the books of Fenerbahce at the time.

However, just days later, Madrid signed the teenager.

According to ESPN, Los Blancos paid €17.5 million (£15.01 million) for Guler.

Guler is injured at the moment.

The playmaker sustained a knee injury in training during Madrid’s US pre-season tour and has not trained with the first team since July 21.

Guler is recovering from his injury now and could be back in action by September 23 or 24.

Praise for Real Madrid playmaker Arda Guler

Luka Modric is one of the greatest midfielders of all time and is a Real Madrid legend.

The Croatian star has been hugely impressed by his Madrid teammate Guler, and his comments underline just what Arsenal have missed out on.

Modric said about Guler in Sportske Novosti: “Arda Güler is an extra talent, you could see it in the training sessions before the injury.

|His football will be spectacular.

“He has some skills with the ball that are special.

“He is a very nice guy, humble, modest and eager to learn.”
