Maitland-Niles made the comments following Arsenal’s win against Liverpool in the FA Community Shield at Wembley Stadium in London on Saturday evening.
The 23-year-old – who can operate as a midfielder, winger, full-back or wing-back – played well for the Gunners.
According to WhoScored, the Englishman took one shot which was not on target, had a pass accuracy of 71.4%, took 48 touches, made four tackles, one interception and three clearances, and put in three crosses.
The Telegraph has claimed that Newcastle have made an enquiry about the 23-year-old, while Sky Sports have reported that Wolves remain in talks with Arsenal over the transfer of the youngster despite having their initial bid of £15 million turned down.
Maitland-Niles said on BT Sport: “I’m an Arsenal player until I’m told otherwise. My heart’s in the club and while I’m here I’m going to give 100 per cent all the time, so that’s that.”
Missing out?
Maitland-Niles’s comments suggest that he wants to stay at Arsenal, and that it will be the Gunners’ decision to sell him.
Given his encouraging performance against Liverpool, the Gunners could well decide to keep him for one more season at least.
This means that Wolves and Newcastle could miss out on the youngster, whose versatility and determination to do well would make the Wanderers or the Magpies better teams.
