The former Arsenal midfielder has been on the books of West Ham since the summer of 2018 and is out of contract at the London club at the end of the 2020-21 campaign.
According to a report in The Mirror, the Hammers want to terminate the England international’s contract and want to get his £100,000-a-week salary off their books.
Described as a player who has “game-changing abilities” by then West Ham Director of Football Mario Husillos in July 2018, as quoted on the club’s official website, Wilshere has had injury problems, and, according to WhoScored, played just 212 minutes in the Premier League in 2019-20, while in 2018-19, he played 389 minutes in the league.
Wilshere told The Times: “Listen, I don’t even know my future at the club. I just want to play games and get back to the level whether that’s at West Ham or somewhere else, different country, a different culture maybe.
“While I’m still a West Ham player I’ll remain focused on West Ham, trying give my all in training and still try to fight for that opportunity. The opportunity probably won’t come but I need to remain ready until something changes.”
The Englishman added when suggested that he might be moved on to bring in new players: “Potentially, yes. That’s been quite well known around the club that there’s not much money for new players and some players might have to go. I don’t think they’ll get much for me but maybe if I’m off the wage bill then they can free up some money.”
Leaving West Ham United
It appears unlikely that Wilshere will be able to play a big role for West Ham this season, and it would not be a bad idea for him to move on.
Perhaps the midfielder and the club should come to an agreement and part ways.
Wilshere is a hugely talented midfielder whose career has been advservely affected by injuries, but he is only 28 years of age.
