The well-known and well-respected journalist has reported that Depay wanted to join Chelsea from Barcelona on the final day of the summer transfer window.
However, Chelsea did not accept what the former Manchester United player was asking for in salary, according to Galetti.
Interestingly, the 28-year-old forward was linked with a move to Chelsea’s London and Premier League rivals Tottenham in the summer transfer window.
Sport reported on July 21 that Tottenham made an approach to sign Depay this summer, but the player himself turned it down.
The forward himself said on Twitter last night that he had made a decision to stay at Barcelona.
What now?
It will be interesting to see what happens with Memphis Depay and Barcelona now.
The 28-year-old did well for Barcelona last season, but Robert Lewandowski has moved to Camp Nou and he is now the number one striker at the Blaugrana.
Depay scored 12 goals and gave two assists in 20 La Liga starts last season.
