Liverpool were rejected by Diego Moreira back in 2020 after the Reds offered the Portuguese wonderkid a contract.
It was A Bola in Portugal who claimed that Liverpool made contact with the 18-year-old during his time at Standard Liege.
However, Moreira – while tempted by the opportunity – eventually chose to join Benfica.
Now, there has been an interesting development.
What’s the story?
Well – according to Record – Moreira has signed for Chelsea.
The teenager’s contract at Benfica expires in July, and after refusing to pen fresh terms with the Portuguese giants, he is now heading to Stamford Bridge.
It sees Chelsea add another bright talent to their ranks after already hoovering up more of Europe’s best wonderkids such as Carney Chukwuemeka, Cesare Casadei, Mykhaylo Mudryk and Noni Madueke.

Record believe Moreira chose Chelsea despite interest from AC Milan and Paris Saint-Germain.
So far this season, the Portugal Under-19 international has scored three goals and provided four assists in 25 appearances.
There is no mention of Liverpool resurrecting their interest in Record’s story about Moreira joining Chelsea, which seems odd given the fact he is now available on a free transfer.
Diego Moreira choice is a questionable one
Moreira clearly backs himself to succeed in west London, although we have to question his decision.
Very few youngsters move to Stamford Bridge and actually fulfil their potential. Even Chelsea’s own talent from Cobham – such as Marc Guehi and Tino Livramento – are often overlooked in favour of an expensive import.
Chukwuemeka – for example – has only made one Premier League start this season following a £20m move from Aston Villa back in August.
The England Under-20 international has also been managed by three different coaches in Thomas Tuchel, Graham Potter and Frank Lampard, so it is far from a settled environment, to say the least.
Hopefully, Moreira does not fizzle out at Chelsea, as he seems to be a real talent.
