Steven Gerrard’s Rangers welcome the Dutch giants to Ibrox on Thursday.

A player who played for both Rangers and Feyenoord believes Steven Gerrard’s side are favourites for Thursday’s meeting at Ibrox.
Rangers will kick off their second successive Europa League campaign against the Dutch giants.
And speaking to The Sunday Post (15 September post-match supplement, page 21), Thomas Buffel shared his belief that Rangers possess a stronger team than that of their visitors.
“Feyenoord are a good team at home, but I’m not so sure away from home,” said Buffel.
“It’s a young team, with some prospects, but we don’t really know how good they can be.
“So I think Rangers will be favourites. They look a stronger team and have impressed me.
“The European nights at Ibrox are so special, and hopefully this will be another one.”
Buffel moved directly from Feyenoord to Rangers in 2005, costing the Gers a reported fee of £2.3 million.
The Belgian had found himself frozen out in Rotterdam, where he envisaged himself spending his entire career, under Ruud Gullit’s management.

But he added via The Sunday Post that as soon as he set eyes on Ibrox he was ‘desperate’ to play for Rangers – and ‘gladly’ took the chance.
Now coaching Belgium’s Under-19s, Buffel returned to his homeland with Cercle Brugge in the summer of 2008, after an injury-hit spell in Glasgow.
