After sealing a move to Al Ain, Andriy Yarmolenko has taken to Twitter to send a message to West Ham fans.

What’s the story?

Well, the 32-year-old officially left West Ham on July 1st when his contract expired.

There was talk of Yarmolenko swapping east London for west London, with Fulham interested in his services.

However, the Ukraine international has now decided to move to Abu Dhabi, but not before he made an honest admission to the West Ham supporters about his time at the London Stadium.

You can see what Yarmolenko wrote in full below.

Clearly, he isn’t happy with his efforts for the Hammers.

Yarmolenko spent four years at West Ham following a £17.5m move from Borussia Dortmund in 2018, but could only muster up 12 goals in 83 appearances for the Irons.

He was also paid £115,000-a-week across those four years, so with all things considered, he certainly wasn’t worth the money invested in him.

Andriy Yarmolenko shouldn’t beat himself up about West Ham career

In our view, Yarmolenko largely made up for his shortcomings with that famous goal against Sevilla.

At a time where he could easily have sat out and made himself unavailable to David Moyes, amid the war in his homeland of Ukraine, he stepped up to give West Ham fans a truly special moment against all odds.

Most supporters probably felt last season’s European adventure was over when they were drawn against Sevilla in the Round of 16, given the fact the Spaniards were the reigning Europa league champions, and had won the competition four times since 2013.

However, Yarmolenko’s crucial extra-time goal put the Hammers through, and they very nearly went all the way to the final.

For that reason alone, he should take comfort from the fact he provided fans with a truly memorable moment.
