West Ham wanted to sign James Rodriguez back in August 2022 after the South American expressed a desire to leave Al-Rayyan.
It was MARCA who claimed that the Colombia international was a target for David Moyes as the Scot looked to improve his attacking options at the London Stadium.
Rodriguez eventually joined Olympiacos despite West Ham‘s alleged interest – although things have now turned sour.
What’s the story?
Well, the 31-year-old has now left Olympiacos after the Greek giants terminated his contract.
Rodriguez scored five goals and provided six assists in 24 appearances before his contract was ripped up earlier on Thursday, although it seems his departure is an amicable one.
Olympiacos wrote in an official statement: “James will always be part of our club and a member of the red and white family. We want to thank him for his service and we wish him every success in the future.”
The Colombian has enjoyed a remarkable career, winning the World Cup Golden Boot in 2014 while also lifting the Champions League on two occasions, while playing for European giants such as Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.
West Ham unlikely to resurrect James Rodriguez interest
In our view, it seems highly unlikely that West Ham will make another attempt to sign Rodriguez.
Of course, it isn’t impossible.
However – according to The Times – Moyes will be leaving the London Stadium regardless of what happens on the pitch between now and the end of the season, including the potentiality of him winning the UEFA Europa Conference League.
Therefore, whoever replaces the 59-year-old will arrive in east London with their own ideas about recruitment, which may see Rodriguez wiped from West Ham’s database.

Having said that, anything can happen in football – as we’ve seen recently with the return of Roy Hodgson at Crystal Palace, Frank Lampard to Chelsea and also the bizarre story of Sadio Mane punching Leroy Sane.
As a result, be sure to keep an eye on Rodriguez, as he could potentially be returning to the Premier League.
