Player Tottenham now want was once snubbed by Inter because he doesn’t suit Antonio Conte

Tottenham Hotspur have entered the race to sign Rafael Leao from AC Milan.

The Portuguese forward is one of Serie A’s top stars at the moment, starring at the San Siro in red and black, but in another world he could’ve been playing for Milan’s biggest rivals, Inter.

Indeed, according to Sky Italia’s Matteo Barzaghi, Inter had a deal lined up to sign Leao three years ago, but they bolted on the potential transfer due to the fact they didn’t feel as though he suited Antonio Conte’s style of play.

Now, three years later, Spurs are seemingly keen on the attacker, and this union with Conte could finally come to fruition.

The question now is, has Conte changed his mind about Leao?

At one point, the Italian clearly didn’t think that the attacker was a good fit for his style of play, but now he may be a big-money signing for his Spurs team.

To be fair, Leao has transformed as a player in recent years. With all due respect, he’s gone from being something of a speed merchant with a poor final product to one of the most polished and refined attackers in Italy, so there is reason to believe that Conte will have reassessed his view of the attacker since failing to sign him for Inter three years ago.

You only have to watch a few of Leao’s highlights from last season to see that he’d actually be quite a decent player for Spurs if he was utilised in that Heung-Min Son role making runs beyond defenders for Harry Kane to play his through balls into.

Whether or not Leao ends up at Tottenham remains to be seen, but if he does come to north London, Inter will surely be watching how he gets on under their former manager very closely.
