Rangers have announced the sacking of Giovanni van Bronckhorst on Monday after a poor start to the 2022-23 season – and Nikola Katic, a player sold by the Dutch manager in the summer on a permanent basis, has liked the post.

Katic, 26, left Rangers after four years on the books in the summer, joining Europa League side Zurich on a permanent basis. It comes after making 59 appearances, picking up an injury that kept him sidelined for the entire 20-21 season.

The one-time Croatia international went out on loan last season. Then, the £2m signing was offloaded to Zurich in the summer – with van Bronckhorst seemingly unwilling to give him a chance when he returned to Ibrox in the summer.

Rangers announced the news that they had decided to part company with van Bronckhorst after just a year in charge. Ibrox legend Souness feels the decision was harsh. But Katic is seemingly all for the sacking, liking Rangers’ post.

Rangers sack van Bronckhorst and Katic has liked the post

In September, Katic gave an interview to The Athletic and explained how he had been hurt by his exit. He even claims that the stress of injury at Rangers – a club he fell in love with – made him lose his hair. He loved Rangers and the fans.

But van Bronckhorst chose not to bring him back into the fold. That is despite the club struggling at centre-back despite the signings of John Souttar and Ben Davies. Connor Goldson’s injury has really affected form on the pitch.

Clearly, Katic is not van Bronckhorst’s biggest fan. He is happy to see him go even if he is no longer a Rangers player. It will be intriguing to see who Rangers look to bring in next. Steven Gerrard is out of work, of course, after his Villa exit.
