Player says one emerging Leeds United talent ‘really good on the ball’

Jamie Shackleton has raved about his Leeds United teammate Oliver Casey to The Yorkshire Evening Post.

Shackleton, who can operate as a midfielder or as a wing-back, has outlined the attributes of the 19-year-old central defender.

The 20-year-old has praised the teenager for being comfortable on the ball, and was impressed with his performance in Leeds’s 3-1 win against Pacos de Ferreira in a pre-season friendly match at Thorp Arch on Saturday afternoon.

Casey looked calm and composed on the ball, and also was a threat from set-pieces for the visiting team from Portugal.

Shackleton told The Yorkshire Evening Post about Casey: “Olly is a great player. For such a big, strong lad he’s quick but he’s also really good on the ball. He’s showed that, he’s so composed, in areas where you need to be composed, in the middle at the back. He’s got all the attributes.”

One for the future

Casey is an emerging teen talent, and he is one for the future and should not be expected to have a breakthrough season in 2020-21.

Leeds have signed Germany international central defender Robin Koch, and he is likely to partner Liam Cooper in defence at the start of the season.

Casey is only 19 years of age, and although he has already made his competitive debut for Leeds, he is very much a player for the future.
