According to The Daily Record, Vasilios Barkas has been sold on a move to Celtic, meaning that Leeds United are set to miss out on the AEK Athens goalkeeper.

It has been reported that talks between Celtic and AEK are going on over the transfer of Barkas, who has been persuaded to make the switch to Celtic Park this summer.

However, according to the report, Celtic manager Neil Lennon will not finalise the deal until he knows for sure that Fraser Forster will not return to the Hoops from Southampton.

Earlier this week, The Daily Record reported that Leeds – who will play in the Premier League next season after clinching automatic promotion from the Championship – are also interested in signing the 26-year-old Greece international goalkeeper.

This latest reported development means that Leeds are set to miss out on Barkas.

Celtic need Vasilis Barkas more than Leeds United

Celtic are desperate for a new goalkeeper, as Scott Bain is the only senior player in that position.

As for Leeds, Kiko Casilla is the first-choice goalkeeper at Elland Road, and the Whites have just signed Illan Meslier on a permanent contract from Lorient.
