Leeds United-linked Daniel Ayala is officially leaving Middlesbrough.
Middlesbrough have announced on their official website that Ayala will leave the club when his current contract runs out on June 30.
The Championship club have added that striker Rudy Gestede is leaving as well, and that the two players are “now free agents”.
The Daily Star reported in March that Leeds are planning to make a move for Ayala, who has been a success in the Championship and has also played in the Premier League.
The Mirror reported this month that the agent of the former Liverpool defender has approached Leeds, but the Whites’ director of football Victor Orta has rejected the chance to sign the Spaniard.
However, anything is possible in transfer windows, and if Leeds are unable to keep Ben White – on loan from Brighton and Hove Albion at the moment – for the 2020-21 campaign, then they will need to find another centre-back, and Ayala could be an option.
Ayala is 29 years of age and is at the top of his game, and he would be a good signing for Leeds and would be able to make an immediate impact on the team.
