The Liverpool-linked defender Daryl Janmaat once raved about Jurgen Klopp’s side after scoring against them for Watford.
Janmaat, once a reported target for Klopp’s predecessor Brendan Rodgers, has been offered to the Reds, according to Teamtalk.
The Dutchman can cover both right- and centre-back positions, which could come in handy to Liverpool, who are without Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold and now Joe Gomez.
Whether or not Liverpool would be keen on Janmaat remains to be seen.
The 31-year-old may not have made the best impression on the Reds, to whom he has lost on five out of eight occasions – recording an aggregate score of 22-9 in the Premier League champions’ favour.
His only two wins came in Newcastle colours and, to be fair to Janmaat, he kept clean sheets in both of those games.
And while his record went to pot after signing for Watford, he did manage to score against Liverpool – albeit in a 6-1 defeat in November 2016.
Collared by the Watford Observer after that game, Janmaat spoke highly of his side’s victors.
“It’s always hard to take a 6-1 defeat,” he said. “[Liverpool] showed they were much better than us.
“The quality on pitch today was the difference; Liverpool were much better than us.
“They are good – but we could have done more. 6-1 is too big a defeat. We must analyse it, it’s a hard defeat but it is only one game.
“We got stronger near the end, but at least we kept going. We have to forget about it. It’s Liverpool away and they are a very good team.”
