Chris Sutton has taken to Twitter to give his reaction to Jonny Hayes reportedly set to join Aberdeen after leaving Neil Lennon’s Celtic.

The former Celtic striker has said that he is “surprised” that the Hoops decided to release the 32-year-old Republic of Ireland international at the end of this past season and did not offer him a new contract.

According to BBC Sport, Hayes has agreed a move to Aberdeen on a free transfer.

It has been reported that the winger, who also operated as a left-back, will sign a contract at his former club this week, subject to a medical.

Good signing for Aberdeen?

Hayes is a very good winger who did well during his spell at Celtic, as the 32-year-old gave his all whenever he was called into action and gave his managers a valuable option on the substitutes’ bench.

The Republic of Ireland international was on the books of Aberdeen from 2012 until 2017 and was very successful during his spell at the Pittodrie Stadium, and he would be a very good signing for them.

Meanwhile, Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths has said that he wants his teammate Odsonne Edouard to stay at the club next season.

Griffiths told The Daily Record: “I want him to be here, 100 per cent. I see rumours all of the time that he is being linked with massive clubs, but don’t forget that we are a massive club as well, so we want him to stay.

“If he stays one more season and plays as well as he has done over the last 18 months, he’d be a big, big asset in us reaching the 10 In A Row.”
