We rate Manchester United’s team which played against West Bromwich Albion in the 2-2 draw last night.
David De Gea – 6
The Spaniard had very little chance with either goal which West Bromwich Albion scored. Otherwise a quiet evening.
Rafael – 5
At fault for Baggies second goal of the night, as he got caught too far behind his own defensive line. Better going forward, but that was a costly mistake.
Phil Jones – 6
Probably the pick of Manchester United’s defenders on the night. A solid, if not spectacular display.
Marcos Rojo – 5
An ordinary display for Rojo. Although he was not directly at fault for either goal, he looked uncomfortable throughout.
Luke Shaw – 5
Still adapting to the United way of playing and clearly needs time given his age. This wasn’t his finest display, though, with his passing being particularly erratic.
Daley Blind – 7
A very well taken goal added to a decent overall performance. He had to do much of United’s defensive work in midfield himself, but stepped up to help his team.
Ander Herrera – 5
May have been struggling with injury, but this was his worst performance in a United shirt to date. Replaced at half-time.
Juan Mata – 5
Struggled to make an impact in the heart of United’s midfield. His passing-range was off and he created very little.
Adnan Januzaj – 5
Given his big opportunity by Louis Van Gaal, he was virtually anonymous on the right-hand side. This won’t have convinced the Dutchman to keep him in the starting line-up ahead of the higher-profile stars.
Angel Di Maria – 7
Another eye-catching display for Di Maria, who was probably the pick of United’s players on the night. His delivery is a major threat and he has adapted to English football instantaneously.
Robin Van Persie – 5
Another poor display from the Dutchman. His movement was non-existent and he posed very little threat. His position in the starting line-up must be under threat.
Substitutes:
Marouane Fellaini – 7
Made a good impact after coming off the bench and his goal was nothing short of spectacular.
Radamel Falcao – 6
More of a threat that Van Persie, despite getting far fewer on the pitch. Should be included from the start in the Red Devils’ next fixture.
Ashley Young – N/A
Not on long enough to have an impact on the pitch.
