Newcastle were supposed to sign Joao Pedro this summer.
A deal to sign the Brazilian in the last transfer window was as good as done at one point. Fabrizio Romano even gave the move a ‘Here We Go’ stating that a ‘full agreement’ had been reached.
However, for one reason or another, the trail went cold on this one not too long after a deal appeared to be agreed.
Pedro stayed at Watford and he even signed a new contract, and since committing himself to the Hornets, he’s more than repaid the faith shown in him.

The Brazilian has been fantastic this season. He’s been a consistent threat going forward, averaging more than two shots, key passes, dribbles and times fouled per game while he also has two goals and two assists to his name.
All of this has amounted to Pedro being ranked as the best attacking player in the Championship according to WhoScored, and while he isn’t near the top of the goalscoring charts, his all-around play has been marvellous.
Unfortunately, the rest of the Watford team haven’t quite been on his level, and the Hornets are struggling to establish themselves as a viable promotion contender in the Championship.
However, as Nottingham Forest showed last season, you can’t judge the Championship until the latter part of the season, and as long as Pedro is in this Watford squad and playing this well, the Hertfordshire outfit stand a great chance of climbing the table.
Newcastle seem to have missed out on a gem here, and at the age of just 21, this is a footballer that could drastically improve in the coming years and his value could easily surpass whatever the Magpies were planning to pay for him.
