Reported Newcastle United January transfer target Jesse Lingard wants to stay at Manchester United for the rest of the season, according to The Manchester Evening News.

Manchester United do not expect Lingard to leave in the January transfer window.

The former West Ham United loanee is out of contract at Old Trafford at the end of the season.

Lingard reportedly plans to stay at Manchester United for the rest of the season and then join a club on a free transfer.

Jesse Lingard transfer blow for Newcastle

The report in The Manchester Evening News will come as a blow for Newcastle.

Eurosport have reported that Newcastle are preparing to make a bid for the 29-year-old in the January transfer window.

It seems that Eddie Howe’s side are determined to bring the 29-year-old to St. James’ Park.

In our opinion, it would make sense for Lingard to wait until the summer to make his decision from a financial perspective.

As a free agent, the attacking midfielder would have a number of clubs to choose from.

Lingard could then demand a lot in wages, as interested clubs would not have to pay any transfer fee for him.
