It’s no secret that Liverpool have a stunning record when it comes to selling players during the Jurgen Klopp era.
Of course, they pocketed a massive £142 million in selling Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona over four years ago, a transfer record that won’t be beaten for some time at Anfield.
But even lesser-established players like Rhian Brewster and Dominic Solanke fetched well over £40 million.
Yep, Klopp and Michael Edwards – mostly the latter – certainly knew how to engineer a bargain for the Merseysiders.
But Iago Aspas is someone who left Liverpool for absolute peanuts, relative to what he’s doing now.
Now 34, the Spanish attacker of Celta Vigo has certainly blossomed into an excellent player.
Sold by Liverpool for £5 million seven years ago, Aspas remains a lethal La Liga hitman despite his advancing years.
Last term, Karim Benzema of Real Madrid is the only Primera Division player who scored more than him.
The former Red, who managed only 14 Premier League outings in England, came second in the Golden Boot chase with 18 league goals last season, out-scoring everybody in the division except for the France international.
Of course, Liverpool weren’t exactly wrong to sell the player, considering how good the club have become since he returned to Spain.
But it just goes to show that not everyone who fails to make the grade at Liverpool is automatically a poor footballer and the Merseysiders haven’t always had their golden touch when it came to selling players.
