A player Leeds United reportedly sold for £2.5 million last summer could make his Premier League debut this weekend.

Bailey Peacock-Farrell has played just twice for Burnley since his 2019 transfer across the Pennines, with both of those outings coming in the EFL Cup.

But the 24-year-old, who has established himself as Northern Ireland’s number one nonetheless, is in line to replace Nick Pope when Burnley travel to Manchester City on Saturday.

Pope is being ‘checked out’ after suffering a ‘knock to the head’ during Monday’s 1-0 win against Crystal Palace, according to his manager Sean Dyche.

And in quotes published by Pendle Today on Thursday, Dyche suggested he would have no qualms throwing in Peacock-Farrell, who played 41 times for Leeds.

“Bailey has been waiting patiently and developing all the time,” he said. “He’s rounding himself into a very good goalkeeper.

“He’s got a better presence physically and credit to him because he’s been working incredibly hard in the gym to improve his frame and agility.

“I think he’s improving all the time.”

Peacock-Farrell joined the Leeds academy after his release by Middlesbrough as a teenager.

And the Darlington native began the Marcelo Bielsa era as number one before being displaced by Kiko Casilla.

Leeds brought in another young goalkeeper, Illan Meslier, at the start of last season and the Frenchman has since ousted Casilla, his senior rival.

Peacock-Farrell, meanwhile, spent his first campaign at Burnley as third in the pecking order, behind Pope and Joe Hart, who has since joined Tottenham Hotspur.
