Leeds squandered a golden opportunity to move away from the bottom three last night on an evening where Taty Castellanos rubbed salt in the wounds.
Leeds fans will surely recall that name.
According to Dean Jones, Leeds were fronting the queue to sign Castellanos from New York City back in June 2022, before he eventually secured a move to Girona.
Now – as the likes of Patrick Bamford and Marc Roca squander huge goalscoring chances against Leicester – the Argentine is thriving in Spain.
What’s the story?
Well, Leeds could have done with a striker like Castellanos in their relegation battle.
The South American remarkably scored four goals in one game against Real Madrid on Tuesday night to hand Girona a memorable 4-2 win over Los Blancos.
It means Castellanos has now scored 12 goals in 31 appearances for Girona in his debut campaign.
That is a solid return, and as Leeds languish down in 16th place in the Premier League without a regular goalscorer leading the line, missing out on the 24-year-old now looks like a significant moment.
No guarantee Taty Castellanos replicates form at Leeds
Having said the above, there is no guarantee that Castellanos would have started for Leeds – even the likes of Wilfried Gnonto and Georginio Rutter are not starting right now.
Javi Gracia is currently infuriating the Leeds supporters by leaving out the pair in must win games, with neither even coming off the bench in Tuesday’s 1-1 draw against Leicester.

Rutter is, admittedly, new and yet to prove himself, but the exclusion of Gnonto – arguably the most exciting player at Elland Road – is truly bizarre.
Of course, Castellanos would have been a solid addition to the attack at Leeds, but when a player like Gnonto is not even coming on as a substitute, that must be the main point of concern right now.
